At Unique Laser, we don’t like to use the term “anti-ageing”. We all age, and preventing this from happening is impossible. Instead, we like to focus on creating strong, healthy skin that you feel confident showing to the world!

So, how can you do this? When should you start taking care of your skin? How do you start taking care of your skin?

Here are our suggestions for skincare ingredients and treatments based on your age.

In your early-mid 20s

It’s never too early to start taking care of your skin! When you are in your early 20s, you will still have plenty of collagen and elastin, which is what gives the skin it’s plump, youthful look and feel. However, this is a great time to start creating good habits and introducing quality products into your regime.

We like to start with active ingredients that will help to hydrate and protect the skin, such as hyaluronic acid, peptides, vitamin B, C and E. Anything that is rich in antioxidants is also beneficial as they can help to reduce free radical damage caused by many external factors of our modern lifestyle (sun exposure, pollution, chemicals etc).

However, the single, most important product to use in your 20s is SPF. Approximately 80% of photoageing is caused by UV exposure, as well as various types of skin cancers. Applying a broad-spectrum SPF50+ each and every day will help reduce the development of a range of common concerns, such as fine lines, pigmentation and loss of volume. Taking 30 seconds each morning to apply SPF will be your biggest savior in your 40s, 50s and 60s, when those collagen and elastin fibres start to deteriorate.

Your early 20s is also the perfect time to try some basic clinical treatments, such as those from our ‘The Essentials’ menu. These therapies were created to replenish, hydrate and purify the skin for a youthful glow and natural radiance. Depending on your skin type and concerns, this could include options such as LED, microdermabrasion, gentle peels or enzyme treatments, which are effective options for treating congestion, breakouts, dehydration, sensitivity or uneven skin tone and texture.

Mid-late 20s

Your mid-late 20s is the time where you are most likely to notice the first changes in the structure and appearance in your skin. Now is a great time to add some stronger ingredients into your skincare regime, such as vitamin A and acids that can help refine the skin.

Vitamin A (also called retinol or retinal, depending on the type used) is considered to be the gold-standard when it comes to treating a wide range of concerns. It promotes cell turnover and resurfaces skin to target fine lines and wrinkles. It can also be used to treat acne, congestion, pigmentation and scarring, which is why we love it so much! Not only does it help with concerns you may have now, but it can also help prevent them from occurring in the future.

Ageing causes a loss of elasticity in the skin as collagen and elastin breakdown. Once these fibers have been damaged, it is harder to rebuild them. Daily use of active ingredients can help preserve and protect skin cells, slowing the effects of ageing.

If you haven’t already begun incorporating clinical treatments to your regime, we highly recommend you start doing so now to really help your skin function optimally. ‘The Transformers’ menu would be your best option to correct and repair your skin. You can expect to experience a range of modalities such as LED, moderate peels, microdermabrasion and collagen rebuilding masks. These treatments deliver amazing solutions for pigmentation, redness, sun damage, uneven texture, fine lines and wrinkles – the results will definitely not disappoint!

Did you know what active ingredients come in various formulations and strengths? For example, if you chose low-level retinol for your late-20s, you can choose a stronger alternative to combat skin changes in your 30s. This is demonstrated in a range of products, including the Environ Step-Up system which allows you to easily monitor how your skin is reacting to a product and take it to the next level when results plateau.

Your 30s may also be a good time to introduce some more restorative products into your regime. As you get older, your oil production decreases, meaning you are more likely to experience dry and dehydrated skin. Oils and lipids will help to keep your skin’s barrier strong, nourished and hydrated for glowing skin!

If you are noticing signs of ageing such as loss of plumpness or volume, treatments that work to rebuild collagen and elastin are recommended. ‘The Disruptors’ are our ultimate skin heroes, which include a collection of innovative and transformational treatments designed to energise and strengthen skin for youthful radiance. Here you will find options such as skin needling, LED, peels and other skin therapies which combine the most powerful ingredients with advanced technology to deliver maximum impact.
